Process Automation Engineer, Columbus, OH metals, cold roll, galvanize ideal heavy industry a must. will be part of a team supporting applications and infrastructure critical to the operation of the facility. Responsibilities will include all levels of automation along with some IT-type support at the plant. Working directly with a large variety of computers, instrumentation and related automation equipment. Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system. Modifications to the automation system to adapt to product changes, changes in raw materials, environmental requirements, or to implement new ideas for continuous improvement to the manufacturing process. Addressing issues that may impact production or system reliability. Real-time computer automation and monitoring of the processes including maintenance of PLCs, computer hardware and software, design and installation of new automation systems, and modernization of existing systems. Working with complex measurement systems such as vision systems for product quality, thermal imaging temperature measurements, RFID and barcode tag reading for product identification, strip thickness and coating thickness gauges, etc. Administration of security controls for automation systems. Working with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission, specialty interfaces, and video systems. Development, implementation and maintenance of computer models for mill processes. Assignments on new installation or modernization projects with participation in activities such as planning, engineering design, hardware configuration, software design, development and testing, and new system start- up. Being well-informed of quality and reliability issues. Working with vendors on products and performance issues. Keeping abreast of projects and activities performed by the research group. Staying current with technology advancements in industrial automation. Supporting a 7x24 operation which will require responding to occasional off-hour calls. Writing periodic status reports and presenting project updates to peers, other departments, and management. Various other duties as needed to support the business. Minimum Job Requirements Bachelors degree (or equivalent experience) in an engineering/computer related field, such as, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Familiarity with Visual Basic Experience in programming PLCs Familiarity with Siemens S5 / S7, I/O and drive systems Familiarity with iFix32 HMI Programming Familiar with SCADA Systems, ibaAnalyzer, and data acquisition systems Familiarity with MS SQL Tables (Views, Procedures, Scripting, Report Builder, etc.) Strong troubleshooting skills are necessary Demonstrated skills in organization, prioritization, time-management, and decision-making Good oral & written communication skills Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to learn new skills/technologies readily Preferred Qualifications Five years experience and a bachelors degree in an engineering/computer related field, such as, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Familiarity with VMS, FORTRAN, C Extensive Experience with Siemens S5 / S7, I/O and drive systems Extensive Experience with iFix32 HMI Software
