  Job Output
  
  Reporting to the Plant Manager, the EHS Specialist is responsible for providing technical guidance relating to the Environmental, Health, and Safety of the plant. The EHS Specialist will also be responsible for developing and implementing the facility's safety management systems. This includes hazard identification, risk assessments, mitigation planning and project implementation, development of procedures, compliance auditing, and compliance reporting.
  
  Additionally, the EHS Specialist will also be tasked with executing process improvement and cost reduction opportunities, in addition, to serve as the safety subject matter expert (SME) on the design, management, and execution of capital projects.
  
  Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  
  
  • Partners with manufacturing leaders, facilitating the maintenance of safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly working conditions
  • Trains and educates employees in the required safety procedures, such as PPE, LOTO, ergonomics, and environmental concerns such as waste and hazardous materials handling.
  • Actively participates as a member of the plant to drive resolution of common cause and special cause issues that negatively impact safety, quality, cost, and productivity.
  • Provides technical assistance to the facility on a proactive basis in terms of environmental, health, and safety.
  • Assists in accident/incident investigation and case/situation management as needed; recommending corrective actions and managing to completion.
  • Manages facility's hazardous and residual waste programs.
  • Identifies and executes improvements in the plant's environmental/safety systems and procedures.
  • Leads manage and facilitate the completion of hazard identification and risk assessments.
  • Plans mitigation of process safety risks and managing projects to implement mitigation plans.
  • Ensures that process safety-related documentation for all identified hazards is developed and maintained.
  • Identifies safety training needs and provides training through in-house resources or external consultancy.
  • Safely executes capital projects per agreed cost, schedule, and performance metrics.
  • Transfers technical knowledge where appropriate to elevate organization understanding and performance.
  • Ensures compliance with facility environmental permit or environmental compliance requirements.
  • Serves as an on-call site contact when needed.

                Qualifications

                • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
                • Effective communication and presentation skills.
                • Experience with the incident investigation to include root cause analysis and 5-Why.
                • Knowledge of and experience with compliance as detailed above.
                • Ability to work effectively within a diverse manufacturing environment.
                • Demonstrated ability to meet Key Performance Indicators and other performance objectives.
                • Solid document management and recordkeeping approach with the ability to leverage technology to support process improvements, accuracy, and efficiency.
                • Demonstrated ability to work with production operations in support of compliance and improvement.
                  
                  Education and/or Experience
                  
                  
                  • B.S. degree in Safety Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety, or related technical discipline OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience
                    • 2-3 years of experience supporting environment, health & safety affairs in a manufacturing environment.
                    • 3+ years of relevant safety management work experience in a manufacturing setting.
                    • Project management experience including facilitation skills preferred.

                    • Office Environment - This position operates in a professional office environment and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. No PPE is required.
                      
                      
                    • Plant Environment - This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes a Hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.
