Job Title: Registered Nurse, Labor & Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse (RN) Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience, Postpartum and nursery experience License: Active Ohio or compact license Certifications: ACLS AHA, BLS AHA, NRP Must-Have: - 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience - Postpartum and nursery experience - ACLS AHA certification - BLS AHA certification - NRP certification - BSN degree (preferred) Description: Demonstrates the ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on patients and reassessments as per policy. Demonstrates the ability to assess and reassess pain using appropriate evaluation methods. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques and educates patients and families on pain management. Demonstrates the ability to develop and revise plans of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluates the plan daily for effectiveness. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient’s age. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition. Follows the five medication rights to reduce the potential for medication errors. Formulates and activates teaching plans based on identified learning needs. Evaluates the effectiveness of learning, including family involvement in teaching as appropriate. Demonstrates the ability to perform services requiring technical and manual skills. Demonstrates the ability to perform services within the scope of licensure and seeks guidance on issues beyond the scope of knowledge and responsibility. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual patient and family needs. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Interacts professionally with patients and families. Involves patients and families in formulating the plan of treatment. Performs all aspects of patient care while establishing and maintaining a safe environment for patients and families to reduce the likelihood of medical and healthcare errors. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs. Communicates appropriately and clearly with coworkers and physicians. Maintains good working relationships within the unit and with other departments. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and families. Communicates with care coordination regarding in-hospital and post-discharge plans and needs. Documentation meets current standards and policies. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized, and function in stressful situations. Performs and maintains annual competencies.
