with computerized charting, specifically Epic Description: This
position involves working in a unit that specializes in medical
oncology and benign hematology. The patient population primarily
includes adults and geriatrics facing a variety of solid tumor
cancers. Common diagnoses include breast cancer, lung cancer,
prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, and esophageal
cancer. Staffing ratios are typically targeted at 1:4 but can
increase to 1:5 based on patient acuity. Varied weekend work is
expected depending on unit needs. Scheduling is self-managed,
allowing staff to request their preferred shifts. The first week of
training will be conducted during the day, followed by on-unit
training in the second week with a preceptor. There is a focus on
infection prevention protocols and preventing patient falls. Nurses
will be responsible for administering chemotherapy and managing
central lines, among other duties. Candidates should have
experience with patient care involving administration of blood
products, IV maintenance, and isolation precautions.
Interdisciplinary support services, including physical therapy and
social services, are available to assist in patient care. Floating
to other medical-surgical oncology units may be required as needed.
