Position Summary

Under general direction of Culinary Services leadership team, manages and oversees the LMH Garden, as well as any other horticultural activities that are being driven by the Culinary Services department. Works any shift or area of the department as needed and cross-trained.

Responsibilities

* Embodies the mission and vision of Licking Memorial Health Systems, taking a high level of personal responsibility for the success of the Culinary Services' horticulture goals
* Competency in all aspects of growing edible culinary plants and herbs in Ohio- from the seed to harvest, on a volume scale.
* Assigns specific duties to seasonal and support staff as needed, during peak times that necessitate additional staff support.
* Manages seed and supply orders, working closely with Culinary Services leadership team.
* Starts plants from seed within an indoor environment, and moves plants over to the outdoor garden space- according to the local climate and season
* Maintains the physical space of the garden and any indoor growing environments, keeping the space tidy and visually appealing
* Oversees crop growth and harvesting, as well as finished product transport and data tracking
* Offers creative suggestions and works closely with the Culinary team to develop a grow list that will successfully feature the wide variety of popular fresh produce in Ohio
* Performs all other duties as assigned

Requirements

* Able to work a flexible schedule, depending on the needs of each season
* 5 years of volume gardening, food farming, and/or horticulture experience
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to develop and maintain positive working relationships within the department and with other departments.
* Strong problem-solving skills as related to growing food in Ohio's climate
* Knowledge of food safety practices in operating a production garden/farm
* Knowledge of chemical-free and organic pest control, weed control, and natural growing methods.
* Valid Ohio driver's license
