Job Description:
Summary of Position: This role is responsible for setting up,
operating, and maintaining a variety of CNC and special-purpose
machining equipment to produce high-quality metallic parts. The
position requires strong knowledge of machining, blueprint reading,
and precision measurement. The machinist ensures parts meet
dimensional specifications, troubleshoots machining issues, and
collaborates with engineers and production staff to resolve
manufacturing challenges. Consistent adherence to safety standards
and equipment maintenance practices is essential. Principal
Responsibilities: Core Responsibilities: Sets up and operates
conventional and special purpose machines to fabricate metallic
parts Applies knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop
mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques
Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or
sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work
piece, sequence of operations and set up requirements Measures,
marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or
work piece as guides for subsequent machining Selects, aligns and
secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories
and materials on machine, such as saws, mills, grinding, burning
and drilling equipment Calculates and sets controls to regulate
machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and
angle of cut Starts and observes machine operation to detect
malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine
controls as required Sets up and operates machine on a trial run to
verify accuracy of machine settings Verifies dimensions using
measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge
blocks May develop specifications from general descriptions and
draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated May confer with
engineers, production personnel or others to resolve machining or
assembly problems Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety
procedures and regulations. Maintains equipment by completing
preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's
instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
Scope of Position: This role is responsible for setting up,
operating, and adjusting machining equipment to produce precise
metallic components according to blueprints and specifications. The
machinist ensures product quality through accurate measurement,
troubleshooting, and collaboration with engineering and production
teams. The position also maintains safe operations and performs
routine equipment maintenance to support continuous production.
Prior Experience/Skills: 5 years of manufacturing experience
Ability to edit programs for CNC equipment Ability to follow simple
written and verbal instructions Good understanding of blueprint
reading with regards to machining diameters (ID &OD) surfaces
and simple shapes Must be able to machine parts to specified
tolerance and use simple measuring devices like micrometers an
depth micrometers to measure the part Ability to routinely lift 50
lbs or more on a regular basis Ability to work in narrow spaces,
climb, balance, stoop and kneel Prior experience working with
stainless and tool steel alloys preferred Work Environment: The
characteristics described below are representative of those
encountered while performing the essential functions of this
position. While performing the duties of this job one would
occasionally be required to stand, sit, walk, reach with hands and
arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear and use
fingers and hands to feel objects, tools and equipment. Specific
vision abilities require close vision, distance vision, depth
perceptions and the ability to adjust focus. Overtime may be
necessary as workloads dictate. This may include weekdays and
weekends. Job duties will generally be performed in an office
environment but may require visits to the production site.
