The Newark Sourcing Lead is responsible for all aspects of sourcing at the Newark Plant. Leadership and accountability of the role includes supplier management, cost reductions driven through negotiations and material substitution, performance against specific sourcing metrics, and development of an external market perspective including inflation forecasting.

Reports to: Supply Chain Leader

Span of Control: This is a leadership position with 7 direct report(s)


The Sourcing Lead will have the responsibility to:

Knowing Our Customers

+ Drives customer value by ensuring timely delivery of the lowest cost, on-spec input materials into each of our manufacturing facilities.

+ Manages supply base, inflation and savings forecasts in a data driven manner accounting for potential short, medium, and long-term risks and allocates resources to mitigate supply & supplier risk as necessary.

+ Knows our Customers, participates in direct customer visits and has a thorough understanding of Customer issues across their supply chain including specifications, raw material inputs, OC competitors or alternative products, and inbound-outbound logistics.

+ Communicates to the business, any supply base disruptions, market price inflation/deflation to adjust our customer strategy and pricing to be competitive


+ Monthly accounting for cost reductions and material substitutions per the annual financial plan

+ Supplier Risk Management designed to hold vendors accountable for delivery of raw materials and MRO materials on spec and on time

+ Monthly inflation forecast which incorporates view through the lens of an external market perspective

+ Each of the above elements are communicated to key stakeholders in a manner that each can relate to the numbers as they impact the relevant P&L and balance sheets.

+ Additional reporting as needed

Supplier Leadership and Negotiation

+ Effectively negotiates contracts with suppliers that bring long-term advantage in the form of cost reductions, payment terms, and competitive advantage.

+ Utilizes results of supplier analysis to improve performance, reduce cost, and minimize risk.

+ Manages strategic relationships with suppliers to bring synergy across the businesses, where possible.

+ Brings outside-in perspective of the value chain to provide actionable intelligence to the business.


+ Supplier contingency planning

+ Own and manage supplier relationships

Business Planning and Leadership

+ Ensures the attainment of business material commodity strategies that are thoughtfully developed and analyzed with focused insight on the external market including macroeconomic supply and demand trends, commodity availability and capacity, OC participation versus overall market, advanced sourcing inputs identified by participation on the front end of the supplier selection process, supplier/commodity risk, product specifications, supplier performance management, economic value potential and other relevant business factors.

+ Sets supplier and commodity strategy development through focus on external market influence, outside-in perspective and in alignment with commercial strategies

+ Builds and maintains strong relationships with suppliers to ensure supply security, material quality, and optimization of supply chain costs. Mitigates supply risk by identifying alternative options - supplier base or product base.

+ Recognizes problems as opportunities to improve processes and eliminate waste.

+ Ensures SOX and all other corporate/sourcing compliance policies are followed.

+ Monitors and analyzes external market factors to enable timely adjustments and mitigate potential financial shortfalls.

+ Strategy is attained through alignment with key plant leadership and corporate stakeholders


+ EBIT savings driven by negotiated cost reductions and net inflation

+ Material cost take out driven by material substitution

+ Cash flow improvements driven by payment terms extension and/or inventory reductions

Newark Sourcing Team Leadership

+ Deploys talent to maximize results and focus on growth/development

+ Sets clear goals and align expectations with broader team through Newark Supply Chain Leader

+ Develops, leads and communicates the annual operation and strategic plans consistent with EBIT savings goals, cash improvements, non-financial performance and long term strategic requirements.

+ Designs an organizational structure that aligns talent within the objectives of the business segments.

+ Creates an environment where talent drives performance management and accountability through OC values

+ Ensures development of each individual on the team through robust development and succession planning.

+ Partner with Plant Pillar teams to drive the TPM methodologies throughout the Sourcing team.


+ Annual goals and objectives with Supply Chain Leader & Sourcing Function

+ Talent attained through recruiting and hiring



+ At least 2 years of related work experience in sourcing, procurement, or related field

+ Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Purchasing, Logistics or related field


+ Demonstrated leadership experience strongly preferred

+ Possesses relevant professional and technical knowledge and skills to lead business change and produce results within a specific job function; and keeps up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise

+ Demonstrated understanding of the principles of supply chain/sourcing management

+ Work with supplier analysis and commodity strategies

+ Exposure to production management, logistics and commodity sourcing


+ Able to engage and care for others starting with Safety; Commitment to Safety is Unconditional

+ Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience gained from on the job and formal training in team leadership, facilitation, problem solving, diversity, safety, waste elimination and lean manufacturing

+ Project management

+ Critical thinking, problem solving and decision making through analytics and data

+ Managing daily operations

+ Strong business acumen

+ Fluent in Microsoft Applications - namely Excel (ability to create/use pivot tables, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook

+ Additional qualifications/certifications preferred: Lean/Six Sigma, CPIM, Negotiations Training

+ Negotiation skills - manages the information and communications in negotiation discussions effectively and positions the business unit and/or functions to a positive solution

+ Effective communication skills

+ Proficient in SAP is preferred

+ Ability to build professional relationships
