Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Member of the EMI Management team, the maintenance manager
contributes to the strategy of the plant and its execution through
her/his knowledge and management.
The primary role of this position is the safe management of
maintenance support and plant services functions for EMI.
MN Alloys Maintenance, Department 202 & 203, primarily supports and
maintains areas which include, but are not limited to the following
departments: (066) Utility, (076) Alloy Mix, and (101-102-MOR).
Plant Services, Department 221, operates and maintains areas which
include, but are not limited to the following departments: (205)
Plant buildings, grounds and roadways, (266) Scrubber waste water
recycle system and sewage waste treatment facilities, (260) UNOX
waste water treatment facility, (224) Plant utilities, well water
pumping and distribution system, in-plant sanitary drinking water
distribution system, in-plant natural gas distribution system,
plant-wide HVAC, building heat/hot water boiler systems, (240)
Plant laboratory.
This position also coordinates maintenance manpower scheduling to
(143) Crushing & Sizing department, (231) Traffic department, and
other non-core areas as necessary.
Most areas of the plant operate 24/7, 365 days per year.
--- Management of a team consisting of (1) Electrical planner, (1)
Electrical supervisor, (2) Mechanical supervisors, (1) Mechanical
planner and (1) Major Maintenance Mechanical planner and
reliability specialist.
--- Craftsmen: (8) General Mechanics, (7) Electrical
Instrumentation, (7) Metal Workers, (4) Auto-Diesel Mechanics, (2)
Equipment Inspectors. (28) total craftsmen on payroll.
--- Management of 202, 203, 205, 221, 224, 260, and 266 department
operating budgets.
--- Work with EMI Engineering department on long-term CAPEX
projects and equipment upgrades.
--- Working within operating budgets, develop short duration and
longer major maintenance outage work plans on feedback from
departments in MN Alloys maintenance direct support areas.
--- Coordinate breakdown maintenance repairs in operating
departments.
--- Coordination of outside maintenance contractors as needed to
supplement MN Alloys maintenance craftsmen.
--- Procurement of replacement parts for operations department
equipment.
--- Implement continuous improvement processes using the WCM (World
Class Maintenance) and EPS (Eramet Production System)
guidelines.
--- Develop and sustain the CMMS (SAP PM) of the EMI
organization.
Challenges
--- Main activities are 24/7, 365 days per year.
--- Limited manpower makes it more difficult to complete jobs of a
larger scale. This requires the use of more contractors or delaying
other preventative maintenance activities.
--- Loss of abilities and skill sets in the salary ranks places
more of a burden on this position than in the past.
--- Less separation between operations and maintenance leads to
confusion in accountabilities.
--- Good communication is essential to keeping up with shared
responsibilities so that tasks are not forgotten.
--- Immediate implementation of the weekly maintenance
prioritization, planning, scheduling and execution cycle.
Responsibilities
--- Maintain the highest standards of safety and housekeeping by
ensuring plant rules of conduct, standard operating practices, job
safe procedures and other necessary requirements are observed and
followed.
--- Improve maintenance support of MN Alloys operation and plant
services at Marietta, Ohio.
--- Implement the WCM standards to reach efficient maintenance
activities.
--- Develop good working relationships and trust with the operating
departments to improve furnace operating time and load.
--- Reduce maintenance costs in areas of accountability.
--- Improve MN Alloys and Plant Services equipment performance and
uptime.
--- Coordinate Plant-wide maintenance activities.
--- Give input to Plant Management team on CAPEX projects as a
result of asset history.
--- Help troubleshoot problems with operations personnel.
--- Identify problematic equipment and develop maintenance plans to
make it run better.
--- Ensure all required inspections and reporting are complete for
State Agencies (i.e. EPA).
--- Ensure all maintenance employees attend the proper training as
required by plant standards.
--- Receives, reviews and processes work requests pertaining to
assigned area and initiates necessary actions for their
execution.
--- Coordinates the timely and efficient execution of scheduled
work with allowance and due consideration of job scheduling with
production needs. Requisitions all pre-determined parts, materials,
special tools and arranges for timely staging at the job sites.
--- Coordinates the activities of contractors in assigned areas as
required, including bid conferences for project or budget
quotes.
--- Generate contractor work notifications and review with
department manager. Issue to assigned contractor after
approval.
--- Coordinate with production department managers to develop and
decide on major maintenance equipment outages. Help compile job
listings for outage work.
--- Oversee contractor work, assure work is performed in a quality
manner, meet safety requirements, approve administrative documents
and communicate job progress/problems, if required.
--- Maintain active and current backlog file of work orders
awaiting scheduling by priority during outages.
--- Executes and completes maintenance shift reports, work orders
and schedules in a timely fashion as required or directed.
--- Re-directs and adjusts assignments of personnel to service
unplanned unscheduled priority emergency repairs as required.
--- Devises means and methods of repair, facilitates/procures spare
parts and materials as required.
--- Communicates, in a timely fashion, he status of critical
repairs to both area operations and maintenance management.
--- Executes and administers company policies, labor contract
requirements within area of accountability, including EEO and
affirmative action.
--- Ensure shop tools and equipment are in safe operating
condition.
--- Conducts monthly crew safety meetings and completes required
reporting documentation and attends all required management and
safety meetings and training as required.
Skills
--- Bachelor of Science in an Engineering field, mechanical or
maintenance is preferred. Equivalency in experience and knowledge
will also be considered.
--- Successful completion of an upgrade of a maintenance department
in heavy industry leading to a notable improvement in equipment
reliability/availability will be strongly considered.
--- Self-motivation and good organizational skills.
--- Good working knowledge of union craft trades and work
practices.
--- Good skills in supervision, interpersonal communications, and
problem-solving ability.
--- Strong mechanical working knowledge of rotating, reciprocating,
and heavy-duty mobile equipment.
--- Good knowledge of SAP and other basic PC skills.
--- Knowledge of Federal Title V and Ohio EPA permitting
requirements for air emissions, ground water, and soil.
--- Familiarity with OSHA 1910 General Industry safety
guidelines.
--- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without
the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the
future.
